Shower Thoughts 1: Are We Still Crazy About shopping?

Today’s shower session will discuss… Okay, this isn’t the BBC so no need for formalities. So if you keep reading you’ll find out about my recent lightbulb moment which made me reconsider my online shopping mania.

I’d been counting down the days until the summer sales began, and I couldn’t wait to see what kind of deals I’d be able to get. I was continually searching the internet for any news about the specific day and time. I was even going through social media sites since they are the ones that give us the scoop first… And when I finally got a notification from H&M saying the sale starts TODAY for all members, I knew it was time. The day I’ve been looking forward to for so long… Summer’s one and only- the big SALE!

Following that, many more stores announced their sales, making the situation even more exciting. COS, All Saints, and GANI all had up to 50% off, and I was the happiest. And when I was going insane checking all websites for the greatest possible prices (because who doesn’t love a bargain) and attempting to buy everything on my shopping list, I realised that I needed a break. My thoughts were becoming muddled, and I couldn’t make the proper decision anymore. I guess that’s what happens when you get overwhelmed by how much choice there is out there.

So, I jumped in the shower to clear my thoughts and take a break from the screen… and that’s when it hit me… (no, not the shower, I had a light bulb moment).

Why do I keep buying the same sh*it over and over? I was very confused at that point, and quite frankly a bit delusional.

I had zero space left in my closet, no spare money to spend and a wardrobe full of great clothes and outfits that I’ve gathered over the years. But for some reason, I wanted more and more.

And don’t get me wrong, there were items that I truly adored and were a steal, but because I’ve passed that first excitement stage and the thrill has faded away, it’s become much easier to resist.

So, it’s been a month since the summer sales began, and I haven’t purchased a single item yet and I probably won’t. Sometimes all you need to do is take a step back and reconsider your actions and most importantly set your priorities straight.

Plus, charity shopping is so much better… but that’s a topic for another time.
