Free QR code generator
Turn any link, text or Wi-Fi network into a crisp QR code you can download as a PNG and use on packaging, menus, flyers and business cards. Runs entirely in your browser.
Just built a tracking link? Turn it into a QR code
If you are putting a link on something printed, a poster, a menu, a delivery insert, pair a UTM link with a QR code so you can see exactly how many scans it drove in Google Analytics.
A QR code for almost anything
Links and landing pages
Send people from a poster or flyer straight to your website, booking page or offer.
Wi-Fi access
Let guests join your network by scanning, with no password typing, ideal for cafes and rentals.
Menus and price lists
Link a table tent to a digital menu you can update any time without reprinting.
Business cards
Add a code that opens your website, portfolio or booking link on the spot.
Events and invites
Point to tickets, directions or an RSVP form from print or a screen.
Packaging and inserts
Turn a delivery insert into a review request, a discount or a follow prompt.
QR code tips that save a reprint
Keep the contrast high
Dark code on a light background scans best. Very light or low contrast colours often fail.
Leave a quiet zone
Keep clear space around the code. Crowding it with text or graphics stops some scanners reading it.
Do not print it too small
As a rough guide, a code needs about one centimetre of width for every ten centimetres of scan distance.
Always test before you print
Scan the downloaded PNG with two different phones before it goes to the printer.
Use higher error correction on busy prints
If the code sits over a pattern or may get scuffed, raise the error correction level.
Add a UTM link for tracking
A plain link tells you nothing. A UTM link lets you count scans in Google Analytics.
What is a QR code?
A QR code, short for quick response code, is a square barcode that a phone camera can read instantly. Instead of typing a web address, someone points their camera at the code and their phone opens the link, joins the Wi-Fi, or shows the text you encoded. QR codes have become part of everyday life, on menus, packaging, posters, tickets and payment screens.
Static and dynamic QR codes
The codes this tool creates are static, which means the link is baked into the code itself. Static codes never expire and cost nothing, which is exactly what most brands need. The trade off is that you cannot change where a static code points after it is printed, so decide the destination first. Dynamic codes, offered by some paid services, let you change the destination later and count scans in their own dashboard, at a monthly cost.
How to track QR code scans for free
You do not need a paid dynamic code to measure scans. Point your static QR code at a UTM link instead of a plain URL. Every scan then shows up in Google Analytics under the source and campaign you chose, so you can compare a poster against a flyer, or one location against another, at no cost.
